Professor Ken Smith

Chief Executive and Dean: The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG)

Ken commenced as Dean and CEO of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government in mid-May 2017. Prior to that he was based in London and was the Agent General for Queensland and Trade and Investment Commissioner for Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. Up until mid- 2011 he headed the Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet for approximately four years. Prior to this appointment, he served as Coordinator-General and Director-General of the Department of Infrastructure, and has been the chief executive of a range of Queensland Government departments including Education, Arts, Employment and Training, Family Services and Housing Local Government and Planning. Ken has also worked in the public service in N.S.W., Tasmania and Northern Territory. He has taken a leadership role in policy, program, legislative and regulatory reforms at state and national levels for more than 25 years. Ken is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and Educational Leadership, and has held adjunct professorial positions at a number of Australian universities. He has extensive experience as a chair and board member of a number of companies and statutory authorities.
